Ships log for the yacht "Sparrow" an Ian Anderson designed 'Hurley 20', sail no. 109, launched 16th November 1967. This is the day to day stuff involved with owning and sailing a small boat, so nothing earth shattering but there'll also hopefully be some adventures along the way..
What was that old song "don't read magazines they will only make you feel ugly" - or in this case annoyed that we're all locked up and can't get out on our boats
LOL... that popped up on an eBay search feed this morning and I took it as some kind of divine "head pat", that one, a Hurley 20 looks fantastic with the bit between the teeth, and two, this damn thing can't go on forever... you and yours stay safe, Max, and we'll be back on the water before the end of the year/summer ..
Brilliant little boat. I think you should buy another one - one for summer and one for winter, haul them out on a rotational basis. With global warming you Brit sailors will be wanting to sail all year round just like we do here in the colonies. Early leadership on this point happened in the 1960s when the late great Maurice Griffiths spent Christmas day on his boat (the water WAS frozen and the boat covered in SNOW but these are minor details).
In terms of Yacht Mags I am using the current lock down to go through piles of old mags - throwing large numbers out and writing notes on the covers of those I am keeping with a biro - Time consuming but really enjoyable and because it's a job I have been promising my dear wife I would do for the last 80 years or more she has a big smile on her face - happy wife, happy life so they say.
Sorry to hear the news about Boris - really hope he pulls through.
Ha... that gave me a chuckle... global warming... would that be the global warming that brought half a dozen winter gales in as many weeks?? :o)) My experience of those who (somewhat smugly) tell you they are sailing throughout the winter is that they go out once, freeze their buns off, and like all right minded sailors in winter, head for the nearest pub and log fire!
Whatever your political view of him, Boris seems a likeable fellow, and we're hoping the same in this household...

You and yours stay safe Alden..
Pretty thing.... not a monicker you can attach to a Seawych!
ReplyDeleteThe best I could come up with for mine is "functional". :-D
C'mon Mark - they're all pretty in the eyes of the owner.. :o)
DeleteI'm with Steve on this one the Seawych always looked like elegantly functional to me in fact I almost bought one once.
ReplyDeleteJust reading Marks's post on costs - I wa talking to a guy who sails out of Burnham on Sea, mooring for a 25 footer£50 a year - eat your hearts out!
