Best Christmas present..

Diamond!

Brother in law presented me with this on Christmas day - he'd been bin diving in the yard he works in (not really, he just happened to spot it being thrown out!), and it was in an advanced state of rust/dirt, and the clock itself was not working..

As a lock down project he cleaned it up (multi tools/wire wool), ordered a new digital mechanism, fitted it and transferred the hands, and then presented it to me on the day..  absolutely chuffed to nuts - this will be going on the boat..

These things can cost up to/over £100 new! Hugely generous..  😊

  1. Plastimo, quality brand. Wish I had such a generous Bro in law! Tell him that I have adopted him and that it's my birthday this year.

Happy New Year and good sailing for 2022.

  2. I am entered for the Zephyr sailing dinghy Nationals in Wellington which begins on the 3rd February. I am in training and sailing as much as I can for this event when I get time.

I am in the middle of some major TLC on my boat 'Mariner' - I have stripped the interior out after arriving back from our last UK trip to ankle deep water in the boat and black mould coating the whole interior and a broken keel bolt.

This week has been very hot and dry and I have completed the washing, drying and bagging of all the sails. The mould in the boat has been dealt to and I am busy screwing everything back together again. All of this is a pain in the arse but I am not disheartened, I'll get it all fixed.

At 70 years of age I am aware of the continuing need to keep fit. I cycle every day (can't walk far because of arthritis) and sail my Zephyr regularly while continuing the 'Mariner' refit. I am very keen to build a rowing boat to add some variety to the fitness regime. I have purchased the plans for a Drake 17' double ended rowing boat which I hope to build some time - probably this winter. My mate Don has a Herreshoff 18' rowing boat and the intention is to do some rowing together as a mutual fitness encouragement and bevvy imbibing society.
